Healthy Gut, Healthy Life: An inspiring interview with Nicole Spear

Once upon a time, the word “gut” wasn’t mentioned much in public, unless you were talking about a “gut feeling.”

Who knew how vital your gut is to your overall health, until all the recent research? Newly published by Wellness Ink, Healthy Gut, Healthy Life  is a valuable book that you’ll want to read and share.

Find out how Nicole Spear wrote her first book – and what surprised her the most about the writing and publishing process. Read the eye-opening tips for anyone who is considering writing a health and wellness book.

Here is the interview with Lynda Goldman (book coach and publisher) and Nicole Spear (author):

  1. What is your book about?

Healthy Gut, Healthy Life takes readers on a fourfold journey during which they will learn 1) how their gut is linked to common metabolic, inflammatory, and autoimmune conditions, 2) which foods optimize the health of the gut to aid in healing, 3) a specific nutraceutical and dietary plan to heal a damaged gut, and 4) how to prepare gut-healing meals.

  1. What is the most important message you want your book to convey?

A healthy gut is foundational for healing any health condition because this vital organ system governs your immune system. Your diet is the tool that either optimizes or destroys the health of your gut, and your healing potential.

  1. Why did you decide to write a book on this topic?

As I work with clients struggling with various health conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic infections, hormone imbalances, allergies, and even cancer, I find that the treatment plan of almost all individuals begins with altering the diet to promote gut-healing. As we begin addressing the root causes of disease (poor diet, stress, and inflammation stemming from poor gut health), the client experiences tremendous improvement in health.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to explain all the reasons why it is important to address gut health first, and provide a detailed plan for healing in one (or even several) office visits. Healthy Gut, Healthy Life provides all this information in one volume, making the healing journey easier for both client and physician.

  1. How is your book different from other books on your topic?

Healthy Gut, Healthy Life is a comprehensive guide to gut-healing. It doesn’t simply focus on food or diseases, but rather, it answers the critical questions:

  • Who needs to heal their gut?
  • What is the problem with our health?
  • Why is the gut so important?
  • How do I heal my gut?
  • Where do I find resources to heal my gut?
  • When do I take all these supplements?
  1. What did you find most enjoyable about writing your book?

Aside from learning how to publish a book and gaining an appreciation for the work it takes to become an author, I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the pieces of this book come together in an organized manuscript that will serve more people than I could help as a practitioner.

  1. What did you find most surprising about the process of writing a book?

I was amazed by the amount of work it takes to publish a book! From writing the rough draft and making multiple edits to designing covers and interiors; publishing a book is a lot of work! I have a much better appreciation for all the authors whose books are lining my bookshelves.

  1. What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

Research and editing. Both elements demanded tremendous amounts of time. I never felt as though I had researched or edited enough, but I eventually had to shut the door on both processes. I learned that you could spend your entire life researching information and making more edits, so you must draw limits and have confidence that your work will still help many people. It was helpful to keep this ultimate goal in mind.

  1. How will your book help you build your business or practice?

Both former clients and potentially new clients have already gained more confidence in my understanding of health and the human body as well as my skill in being able to help unlock the body’s healing potential. This book will help build trust, which is a critical component of any client/healthcare practitioner relationship.

  1. How are you planning to market your book to reach the right audience?

I have a passion to first serve those in my local community and then reach out to others around the globe. With this in mind, I will begin holding local workshops for the public. I also plan to reach out to local, integrative healthcare practitioners to establish a referral network since I desire to work in partnership with other healthcare professionals to promote community wellness.

  1. What message would you like to give other wellness providers who are considering writing a book?

Take your time and enjoy the journey of publishing, rather than making it a race and crossing the finish line exhausted and spent. Keep the goal of serving humanity at the forefront of your mind.
