2 Day Gift of Wellness

Do you have new ideas about health, and want to spread your message? You’ll be inspired to write your book, as Dr. Michael Christensen was. His research began when his mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and led to many paradigm shifts that he wanted to share with the world.

Published by Wellness Ink, 2 Day Gift of Wellness debunks many common myths about health and weight loss, with a touch of humor. Here is the interview with Lynda Goldman (book coach and publisher) and Dr. Michael Christensen (author).

  1. What is your book about?

The book has wellness and effortless weight loss in the title. But you can’t put everything in the title.  By following my 8 principles, you will significantly increase your wellness. In the process of wellness, you will reach your ideal weight and increase your longevity. So, you will live longer and better. A significant part of living longer, obviously, is preventing cancer. One principle, Respect the Triple R day, is targeted directly at preventing or delaying the onset of cancer.

  1. What is the most important message you want your book to convey?

Reject the message that as you get older, you must get sicker. Most people in my process have gotten much healthier as they get older. The longer they are doing the process, the better their weight, their longevity, and their overall health. You don’t want to start down the road to prescription medicine, where one pill is prescribed to counter the effect of the other pill and so on.

  1. Why did you decide to write a book on this topic?

I began the research after my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was first diagnosed with cancer in August 2015. They said it was stage 4 and she had 4-6 months to live. She lived only six months longer. During the research I discovered that most of what we take as fact in wellness is unsupported by the research.

  1. How is your book different from other books on your topic?

My book is full of paradigm shifts. I ask readers to open their minds to what the research actually shows. For instance, I debunk the most common myth that calories in must be less than calories out to lose weight. Watch my 2-minute gifts of wellness video on my Facebook page: There’s more than one way to choke a dog than feed him a pound of butter, if you are interested in why that myth, in particular, is absurd. There are several other myths that are debunked as well.

  1. What did you find most enjoyable about writing your book?

I started the book with no preconceived notions about wellness and weight loss. I looked at most of the wellness “silos” all merrily thinking they have the correct solution. Each silo is important, but research shows they are integrated. What I did that is different is, I didn’t give any one silo more importance than another.

  1. What did you find most surprising about the process of writing a book?

The research is there, but advocates take the pieces they feel are the best support for their silo.  Not only that, they also pay for research about how great their silo is.

The strength of the scientific method is also its greatest weakness. Our bodies are not closed systems where you can keep everything constant except the one thing you want to study. ANYTHING you do to one part of the body is countered by another. The very changing of one thing, changes everything. The study of wellness is a study of the body as a whole, so it requires a macro, qualitative view. Quantification is easiest, but in most cases, the least accurate.

  1. What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

My process is simple, using only 8 common-sense principles. But, it’s not easy. It requires a different mindset: many paradigm shifts. I offer mentoring and online coaching and journaling to help with the transition from what you think you know, to the truth.

  1. How will your book help you build your business or practice?

The book lays out all the principles and the primary research behind the principles.  What I’ve found is the people who hear of my process but haven’t read the book or don’t seek the help of our mentors, do not make the shift from old to new.

They think they do, because it’s so simple, but they don’t really understand the paradigm shift. They still want to reduce calories or increase exercise to lose weight, when the research shows the amount of exercise required and calories reduced is unsustainable.  Besides, after a few months, the body adjusts so that you have to do more of each. It’s like a bad drug. The industry, at its highest level, knows that.

This book is the ramp that brings people in by giving them the basic knowledge to succeed. My business of Online Mentoring (OLM), peer coaching, and journaling is where I will have the greatest effect. In short, it helps with the “getting to know me” before they make the larger purchase decisions.

  1. How are you marketing your book to reach the right audience?

I’m an International wide-body airline captain with a doctorate degree. I am targeting the airlines and traveling market first (under-served) while keeping the rest of the wellness market in sight. I am partnering with experts in the health silos to show how my process will make their efforts more successful.

Currently, I am running a national campaign where for two days, on the 2-year anniversary of my Mom’s passing, I am lowering the price on my eBook to 99 cents. I will partner with two cancer organizations to donate ALL the proceeds for two causes: cancer cure and cancer care. My book takes care of cancer prevention. In this way I hope to significantly lower the cancer rate by a 2-fold attack: prevention and cure. Yes, I know, I’m obsessed with the number “two.”

  1. What message would you like to give other wellness providers who are considering writing a book?

Imagine taking a tragic situation and being able to do something significant to reduce the occurrence for other people. Now imagine you don’t know how to start. Imagine you are very frustrated. Now imagine you decide to write a book about it. You have the inspiration and the vehicle, now all you need is the map.

Now you can stop imagining and move forward because you have step-by-step directions (like google maps without the annoying voice). Lynda Goldman (WellnessInk.com) provides those directions.

I did it. If you have a passion that needs to be focused, write a book. If you have a business that is stalling, write a book. If you have a desire to change things, write a book. The worst thing that happens is you become immortal.
